PRESERVING OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE

Ornate theaters grace the main streets of cities and towns throughout Oregon. For decades, theaters have provided entertainment, social gathering space, and economic vitality in city centers. These cultural gems serve as downtown anchors and speak to our rich architectural and artistic history.

Recent years, however, have been hard for theaters. Operating costs, building repairs, and expensive equipment upgrades have forced many to close their doors.

BRINGING VITALITY BACK TO DOWNTOWNS

In the face of financial struggles, theater-lovers have rallied the funds needed to sustain or re-open many theaters. This study builds on efforts across the state to restore these dynamic downtown assets. Click here to view the final study and learn how to get involved with historic theater preservation in Oregon.
